Fabric Building Contractor in Kansas City

MAR Building Solutions designs, permits, and erects tension fabric buildings across the Kansas City metro as an authorized Britespan dealer and installer.

Fabric Building Capabilities

Clear spans from 24 to 210 feet, ten engineered profiles, and foundations from piers to full slab. We size and specify the one that matches how you load, store, and move material.

Salt and Sand Storage

Covered storage for municipal, county, and DOT yards. An 80 by 120 building at a 22 foot eave holds roughly 4,500 to 5,500 tons. We handle these as government and municipal projects.

Agricultural and Commodity Storage

Hay, grain, fertilizer, machinery, and livestock housing. No posts to stack bales around or drive equipment between. Curtain sidewalls and ridge chimneys ventilate without powered fans.

Bulk Material and Aggregate

Sand, aggregate, salt-sand mix, and processed product that has to stay dry and separated. The frame spans the working face, and abrasive dust does not degrade an HDPE cover.

Sports and Recreation

Riding arenas, practice facilities, and equipment buildings. These are rigid-frame structures, not air-supported domes, so there is no inflation system and no blower running full time. A general-purpose arena starts near 60 by 120 feet.

Waste, Transfer, and Composting

Tipping floors, compost pads, and material recovery buildings. Leachate and ammonia attack steel and wood in ways they do not attack a polyethylene membrane.

Industrial and Warehouse Space

Unconditioned fabrication, staging, laydown, and seasonal overflow. Fabric is the wrong answer for conditioned space, crane rails, or hanging mechanical loads. Those belong in a pre-engineered metal building.

Why Fabric Works for Salt Storage

Salt eats steel. Chloride attacks in small spots instead of evenly, so a bolt or a base plate can thin out while the steel around it still looks fine.

A fabric cover cannot rust, and nothing is screwed through the roof. The galvanized frame sits high enough to stay out of the splash zone.

The Magnum series is built for salt. It has a steep 10:12 roof that sheds snow, a 30 by 37 foot lane inside for trucks to dump, and a frame that stands free of the salt wall instead of resting on it.

  • MoDOT EPG 172: Requires all salt to be covered, and names fabric buildings as acceptable storage.
  • Sourcewell 071223-BRT: Public agencies can purchase without running a separate competitive solicitation.
  • Design basis: Salt at 80 lb per cubic foot, 32 degree angle of repose, 20 foot minimum door openings.

The Britespan System

  • Galvanized after fabrication: Trusses are dipped after welding, so zinc reaches the welds, cut ends, and tube interior that pre-galvanized steel leaves bare.
  • Keder panel covers: Each panel tensions on its own and can be replaced without touching the ones beside it.
  • Cover material: 12 or 13.5 oz HDPE, with PVC to 28 oz and flame-retardant grades available.
  • Warranty: Britespan warranties fabric 25 years and the galvanized frame 20, both prorated.
  • Engineered to your site: Snow and wind loads come from your address. Framed end walls are rated to 105, 115, or 130 mph.

Why Owners Choose MAR

⪼ Foundation engineering: Britespan supplies the building drawings. We design the foundation it sits on, with a registered Missouri PE on staff.

⪼ In-house erection crews: AWS certified welders, crane operators, and OSHA certified field staff. The erection is not subcontracted.

⪼ Ongoing service: Seasonal re-tensioning, patching, and cover replacement, including buildings we did not put up.

⪼ Fabric and steel: We are a Britespan dealer and a Certified Butler Builder. If fabric is wrong for your project, we will say so.

Serving Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas

We build across the metro, including Lee’s Summit, Overland Park, Olathe, Blue Springs, and Independence, and throughout Missouri and Kansas. Projects needing more than one scope can add industrial construction or commercial roofing to the same contract.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a fabric building last?

Plan on 20 to 25 years from the cover and longer from a hot-dip galvanized frame. Seasonal re-tensioning is what carries a cover to the top of that range.

Do fabric buildings need a permit?

Yes. A permanent fabric building is permitted like any other structure and requires stamped engineering. We assemble the package and work the review.

How much does a fabric building cost?

Most run $15 to $35 per square foot for the building itself, driven by span, eave height, and snow load. Site work, foundation, and containment walls add roughly 20 to 35 percent on top. Smaller buildings run higher per square foot.

How wide can a fabric building be?

Britespan catalogs profiles from 24 to 210 feet of clear span. Wider spans use deeper trusses and Keder panel covers rather than a one-piece cover.

Can you re-cover a building you did not build?

In most cases, yes. If the frame is structurally sound, a re-cover costs a fraction of a replacement building.
